Exciting stars at Euro 2016 cause big problems for their clubs
International tournaments are opportunities for the top players to represent their countries. It's also a chance for unsettling transfer speculation.....
Clubs will be tested to the max over the next few weeks with the Euros proving to be a major problem.
Leicester Stars Kante & Vardy are obvious targets for teams both in the English Premier League and across Europe.
Arsenal have already tabled a £20m bid for Vardy and Wenger has said some nice things about Kante.
Kante midfield machine
He said as a pundit for beIN Sports: “I admire and like N'Golo Kante a lot. He gives you ideas. He gives you the feeling that the higher the level he plays at, the more at ease he is.
Dmitri Payet has again been showing the class for France that made West Ham fans fall in love with him. Although it was good to see, it started the media off saying he’ll be leaving them soon.
Payet free-kick specialist
During the season it’s easier for clubs to keep offers and speculation at bay because they see players day to day at training. On international duty the press can develop stories from a simple quote to their national press.
All the mentioned players could get paid wages at their current clubs equal to the biggest clubs in Europe, thanks to the new Sky Sports TV deal.
So, money in the pocket won’t be the major thing keeping these players from moving but the money spent could.
If they see clubs really wanting to challenge for trophies by adding to their squads then that could be a massive influence.
In the past, players were forgiven when they used the phrase “I want to go and win something” before signing for ‘bigger’ clubs. That statement is now blown away when Leicester became Premier League Champions.
Having beat the likes of Manchester City, Tottenham & Arsenal to the title they proved you can win with a well run club.
The test now will be if the owners want to grow or cash in short-term.
MAHREZ & VARDY
If Leicester can’t keep Vardy then that gives Kante & maybe Riyad Mahrez reason to look elsewhere. Ranieri will have to convince them that he’s not happy being a one hit wonder and is serious about another quest for the title, then it could be interesting times ahead.
Some fans say money in football has a negative affect but if it means a club can keep their star players then they must be happy?
